MONTH OF PHOTOGRAPHY L.A. – MARKUS KLINKO AND INDRANI
As glamorous as the people they photograph, Markus Klinko and Indrani, opened their first exhibition in Los Angeles last weekend-a high intensity finish to the month long celebration of photography in the City of Angels. (Alex Hedison’s “Ithaka”got things started the week end of April 4th. Check out the video of opening night) “Icons” is presented by the Lucie Foundation in concert with Month of Photography Los Angeles (MOPLA) and the Farmani Gallery at the Pacific Design Center in Los Angeles, on Melrose Ave in West Hollywood. The event was hosted by The Pacific Design Center, and presented by Smashbox Studios, Hance Partners custom imaging lab, Flaunt Magazine, trusted.com, Opus Reps and the Lucie Foundation in support of these worthy causes.
A portion of the proceeds from the sales of the exhibited photographs will benefit Keep A Child Alive (www.keepachildalive.org), an organization dedicated to providing anti-retroviral treatment, care and support services to children and their families with HIV/AIDS in Africa as well as the developing world, by directly engaging the global public in the fight against AIDS. A portion will also benefit Indrani’s charitable school in India, Shakti Empowerment Education (www.SEEschool.org). Additionally, the duo will donate their photography services to the 2009 Keep A Child Alive “Mother Nature” Print Campaign.

Markus and Indrani, who presented the Picture Magazine of the Year Award at the 6th Annual Lucie Awards last October at Lincoln Center, will be the subject of a newly announced Bravo docu-series entitled Double Exposure (working title) which will feature them, along with fashion stylist GK Reid, in their professional world, thereby giving viewers an insider’s taste of high fashion and celebrity photography. Markus and Indrani remark, “As a multi-media duo with opposing viewpoints and creative partners, our work is a fusion of a multiplicity of perspectives. We come together through love, conflict, negotiation, and respect for each other and our subjects… we collaborate closely with our subjects, to understand them and be inspired by their reality, their fantasies and artistry. We empower them to move freely through our multiple exposures, which we montage for their truest expression, movement and being.”
The duo’s iconic imagery ranges from the playful to the erotic and includes subjects such as Beyonce, David Bowie, Kate Winslet, Keanu Reeves, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez, Anne Hathaway, Jada & Will Smith and many others. Indrani notes, “We have been fortunate to work with many artists at the top of their fields, provocative celebrities who are the subject of intense public interest. In our image-making, we seek to reveal those qualities which make them extraordinary: their personality, their aura, beauty and power.”
Richard Jackson of Hance Partners commented, “I am thrilled that Hance Partners has become the go-to fine art printer for Markus Klinko and Indrani, two astonishing, talented photographers dedicated to producing stunning prints. Our close collaboration,” says master printer Jackson, “allows them to communicate their intention first to me and ultimately to the viewing audience.”
The creative duo lives in New York and photographs extensively throughout the world.
