COACHELLA MUSIC FESTIVAL

Artworks Magazine was there as the 2009 music festival season kicked off in the U.S. this April. Over the last decade, the warm desert setting of Indio, California, east of Palm Springs, has hosted music’s biggest names from Madonna in ‘06, to Prince in ‘08, and Paul McCartney this year. In addition to the headliners, there’s an eclectic array of entertainers to keep crazed fans from all genres satisfied. This year, Morrissey, The Killers, The Cure, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Franz Ferdinand, Public Enemy, Paolo Nutini and many others put on unforgetable performances. Artworks Magazine’s Spring feature artist, Shepard Fairey, was also on hand. He stepped out of his graphic design studio to put on his DJ headset and get folks dancing in the dust. Our Los Angeles based photographer, Harper Smith, captured the atmosphere and artists like no other behind the lens. Look for much more of her photography from the Coachella Music Festival as well as a behind-the-scenes interview with Paolo Nutini on his upcoming album, world tour and his obsession with Cab Calloway and other greats from the Big Band Era in the June issue of Artworks Magazine.
