Now-July 12

Through Running the Numbers: An American Self-Portrait, a large-format series of photographic prints comprised of repeatedly patterned objects, Seattle artist Chris Jordan visualizes statistics otherwise easy to overlook. In Cans Seurat, Jordan arranges images of 106,000 aluminum cans in reference to the famous painting by Georges-Pierre Seurat. Through this photographic pointillism, Jordan presents the big picture of how many cans are used every 30 seconds. Referencing these and other incomprehensible numbers, such as the millions of children without health insurance, the artist brings statistics into focus and implores viewers to question their role in how these numbers add up.
